Who We Are SWCDs are a political subdivision of state government. The Elkhart County SWCD has five supervisors and five associate supervisors. Programs and activities of the SWCD are overseen by the supervisors. Three supervisors are elected at the Annual Meeting and two are appointed by the State Soil Conservation Board based on recommendations made by the SWCD. The Elkhart County SWCD is a county department that is staffed by five employees. Along with the county staff, this office has a NRCS district conservationist. The purpose of the Elkhart County SWCD is to provide the public with information about soil, water, and related natural resource conservation. We also identify local soil and water concerns and connect landowners to educational, technical and financial assistance to implement conservation practices. The Elkhart County SWCD board of supervisors meet the third Monday of every month at 7:00 p.m. in the Extension Conference room on the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds. Board meetings are open to the public.

2009 Affiliate Members Affiliate membership monies are used for educational and informational programs that are an important part of keeping the public informed about and involved in Elkhart County soil and water conservation. The Elkhart County SWCD supervisors, associate supervisors, and staff appreciate all our affiliates for the 2009 year. Without the added income from our affiliate members, we would find it difficult to maintain our programs. Thank you to each individual and business for this helping hand.
