Linway Lake

HUC: 0405000119 (What is a Hydrologic Unit Code HUC?)

Area: 7 acres

Linway Lake was excavated in the late 1960s to supply soil for the construction of the Linway Shopping Center and consists almost entirely of open water. Appropriately named for the adjacent shopping center, Linway Lake is a seven-acre park within the Goshen Parks and Recreation Park System. The park property extends to the west bank of the Elkhart River, while the eastern edge of Linway Lake lies approximately 40 feet from the river’s edge and drains through a 12-inch pipe into a drainage swale that flows into the Elkhart River. At its deepest point, the lake is between 18 and 20 feet deep and is continuously recharged by groundwater. In addition, Linway Lake functions as a stormwater detention area for portions of the Linway Plaza Shopping Center. When the Elkhart River reaches a flood level of 7 feet, the river and the lake merge and become a single body of water.
