Stormwater Education Field Trip Incentive

Now Available to Fund Water Education Field Trips in Elkhart County

The Greater Elkhart County Stormwater Partnership and Elkhart County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) are now offering the Stormwater Education Field Trip Incentive (SEFTI). SEFTI is an incentive program to promote water conservation education in Elkhart County made possible by the stormwater fee collected in unincorporated Elkhart County, the City of Elkhart, the City of Goshen, and the Town of Bristol and administered by the Greater Elkhart County Stormwater Partnership. The program pays for transportation costs for field trips to approved sites where students will learn about water resources within Elkhart County. Any teacher, administrator, or educator from an accredited K-12 school in Elkhart County is encouraged to take advantage of the program.

The Stormwater Education Field Trip Incentive is designed to connect K-12 students with water resources within Elkhart County through on-site and hands-on learning. Locations of pre-approved field trips include Elkhart County Parks, Wellfield Botanic Garden, and the Elkhart Environmental Center.

If you are interested in taking students on a water conservation education field trip, please visit www.elkcoswcd.org and choose a pre-approved field trip site. Schedule the field trip with the site host and send the short application form to the Elkhart County Soil and Water Conservation District for approval. You’ll receive an approval letter to submit with your transportation request, which will notify your transportation office that the field trip falls within the Incentive program and allows the transportation office to bill the program directly.

If you regularly host field trips, believe your field trips fit within the scope of water related topics covered by the Stormwater Education Field Trip Incentive, and would like to be included on the approved field trip site list, please contact the Elkhart County Soil and Water Conservation District.
